Nigam commenced its operations from year 1972 for the upliftment of the housing system and facilities of the State. In 2000, due the creation of Uttranchal, the area under the Nigam was deemed under the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act 1984 Sec 95(1). Hence, on 14th February, 2001 Central Registrar Cooperative Society of the Indian Government brought the Nigam officially under the Multi State Cooperative Society.

It is notable to know that in the month of September, 2003, the Accommodation Officer dissolved the then working management committee. This resulted in a petition (number- 22234/2004) being filed by the members of the committee in the Allahabad Court. The verdict, announced on 22th May, 2009, was that there would be no change in the management committee and the old members would only continue to serve their term and the Society would continue to be subjected under the Multi State Cooperative Societies Act, 1984. That is how the normal proceedings started again for the Society.
